The Vitiver It is a tropical and spontaneous plant, originally from India and Indonesia, which is characterized by a large mass of roots that grow vertically in depths of up to 5 meters. Name Vetiver Drive the Tamil language "Vetiveru".

Essential oil is extracted by steam distillation, from the roots that are washed, cut and dry in the sun. For this reason, in addition to perfumery, it was also used in naturalistic engineering and planted at the edges of the streets to avoid soil erosion. The harvest is done manually between December and September. The plants without roots are re-planted on the ground to be cultivated again.

The distillation process takes more than 24 hours and an average of 150 kg of dry roots is needed to obtain 1 kg of essential oil.
