Bergamot has a very old history in the world of perfumery. It is the part of the olfactory pyramid of 90% of perfumes. But without being the protagonist because of its volatility.
Bergamot is native to South Asia, but the most important area of production is South-Western Italy, in Calabria, along 140 km from Costa Jónica. Bergamot is a hybrid between a bitter orange and a lemon. To obtain 1 kg of essence, 1,500 fruits are necessary. The best quality offers them the newly mature. Its aromatic notes, as well as those of tangerine, lemon, orange and lime, are known as hesperidiadas. It is obtained by squeezing the fresh shell of the fruit.
There are 3 varieties of bergamot: Feminiello, Castagnaro and fantastic.
The Bergamotto di Calabria It contains the precious raw material between "Bergamot Sponge", whose extraction, is still carried out through a manual process, cutting the fruits in half and eliminating the pulp with a curved special cutter. Next, the skin of the fruit is compressed in a natural sponge, through a rotary movement, the essence is collected.
The essence that is achieved is the best part, more delicate and more complex with respect to the one that extracts with the peeper and has characteristics of fruity and floral jasmine notes. Back to the origins and traditional extraction techniques, it has allowed us to get the best of raw materials to get a bouquet that encloses the freshness of the bergamot leaving a persistent and energetic fragrance after a long work.
